Star Spotlight: An Introduction

"We are stardust empowered by the universe to figure itself out,
and we have only just begun,"
 Neil DeGrass Tyson

It is a known fact that a light-year is a measure of distance, not of time like the name suggests. What you many not know is that more accurately it measures the distance light travels in one Earth year. When we look up at the stars each night, we're seeing stars that are thousands of light-years away. However, what we perceive as stars is actually the light bouncing off of our eyes as it was all those thousands of years ago.

One of most magnificent, influential and popular stars of the 20th century, seen here with Marilyn Monroe.
:)

Why do I bring this up? I do so because I believe this is similar to the stars on Earth, both now and back there. Even after those stars have changed, moved on, burned less brightly, or even died, we can see them as they were when they commanded the galaxy. We have created our own time differential, where those stars can live on as if they never changed.

However, some stars burn brighter than others, and through the vast expanse of billions of stars, some are bound to be obscured, left for their light to only shine in the eyes of a select few. Be that as it may, I, as a member of that few, would like to speak of those stars. I want to talk of their contributions to the world and how they left their mark back there that we can still see the vestiges of today.

Need I say more?

I, for one, am ready for this to be my favorite group of segments on this blog. Every post may just be a precursor to the Saturday Spotlight post. As I said in my introduction, this blog, if nothing else, is a movement. I want it to inspire someone to look back there and learn of the awesome history it contains. The comedians, the actors, the singers, all those who contributed to the universe we have today. If time catches up with the rest of space, and the echoes of the stars' light fades away forever, know the records and memories of back there we keep on Earth, will burn unendingly, like a candle in memory of a star.

I hope it's enough for those stars, wherever they are.
